Application of Methyl Silicone Resin as a Release Agent in the Construction Industry

In the construction of large formwork, the selection of release agent is very important, which directly affects the construction progress and concrete quality. In the past, sodium alginate and engine oil emulsion were used as release agents, and although the effect was good, they needed to be coated once every time the concrete was poured, which was labor-intensive and time-consuming, and could not be used on rainy days. Using methyl silicone resin, the demolding effect is good, the wall surface is smooth, and it can be reused 4-5 times after brushing once, until it can be reused 12 times. It is easy to operate, can be used all year round, and is also very cheap.
Methyl silicone resin uses ethanolamine as a curing agent. The weight ratio is methyl silicone resin: ethanolamine=1000: (3-5). If the temperature is low and the amount of ethanolamine is too small, the film formation rate will be slow and the film will become soft after formation; If the temperature is high and the amount of ethanolamine used is too much, the film formation rate will be fast, which will affect the operation and make the film brittle after formation. Therefore, the dosage of ethanolamine can be adjusted appropriately.
After the film formation and curing of methyl silicone resin, a highly cross-linked silicon containing polymer is formed. Its film is transparent and hard, with excellent wear resistance, heat resistance, and water resistance. Coating on the surface of steel molds not only provides isolation, but also improves the rust and impact resistance of the coated material. Methyl silicone resin is a non-toxic organic material that is not easily aged and suitable for manual operation.
When preparing, in order to avoid local gelation, ethanolamine should be poured into a porcelain cup first, diluted with a small amount of alcohol, and then poured into methyl silicone resin while stirring. After stirring evenly, it can be used.
When preparing, the tools should be dry and rust free, and no impurities should be mixed in to prevent dryness reduction or gelatinization. After using the tool, rinse it thoroughly with alcohol and let it dry. How much to use and how much to mix, it is not advisable to mix too much, so adding ethanolamine will quickly gelatinize. When thickening or gelatinization occurs, use should be stopped. Methyl silicone resin will accelerate polymerization when in contact with light, heat, air, and other substances, resulting in the inability to use the adhesive. Therefore, it should be stored in a dark and cool place. After each use, it must be tightly covered to prevent moisture from entering. Generally, storage should not exceed three months.
Operation method: Before applying methyl silicone resin for the first time, the steel mold surface should be thoroughly cleaned, and the metal color should be polished with sandpaper to remove rust stains. Then, use cotton thread dipped in alcohol to scrub. The cleaner the surface of the board is treated, the more times it is reused. When the steel mold is repeatedly used and then re coated with release agent, it is only necessary to clean the concrete floating slag with a flat shovel, brown brush, and cotton thread. At this time, clean the surface of the board when it is damp after demoulding, otherwise it will be more difficult to clean after it has solidified. The release agent can be applied by spraying or brushing. The operation should be quick, and do not brush back after the film surface has formed to avoid sticking. The coating layer should be thin and uniform, and too thick can easily peel off.
